Job Description

JOB TITLE:  Student Services Assistant
REPORTS TO:  V.P. Academics
DEPARTMENT:  Student Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Services Assistant will provide support in the area of Student Services by fulfilling clerical and transportation duties. The Student Services Assistant shall agree to observe the employment and administrative policies of the SDA Church in Canada K-12 Board of Education, those policies of the SDA Church K-12 Board of Education which pertain to the operation of Kingsway College, the policies adopted by the Board of Directors of this school, and those laws and regulations of the Province of Ontario which are applicable to this school.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides a role model of successful Christian living for the students.

  • Interacts with students and models spiritual maturity in leading students towards

  • Christ and then spiritual growth.

  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.

  • Provides adequate supervision of students for which he/she is responsible.

  • Assists school administration in coordinating Public Health Nurse activities.

  • Makes medical appointments for students and transport students to and from those appointments.

  • Coordinates required immunization of students and provides information as required to Public Health

  • Documents student accident reports following up with those students and their families.

  • Maintains student health records by creating files for new students, updating files as needed, and archiving files for future reference when the student leaves.

  • Maintains medical kits for off-campus activities and medical supplies kept in school offices.

  • Monitors Potassium Iodide information and protocol for administration as needed.

  • Works with hospitals and insurance company to complete forms for international students and monitor until payment has been completed.

  • Provides transportation of students as delegated by the administration.

  • Is available for emergency calls during the day.

  • Participates in faculty/staff meetings. Also participates in major school events (i.e. fund dinner, preview weekend, alumni weekend, graduation).

  • Assists in all school departments as necessary and/or assigned.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

JOB STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • A minimum of one year of university/college.

Experience:

  • Should have experience working with and building relationships with youth in a leadership position.

  • Previous clerical experience is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • A desire to mentor young people and a willingness to serve others.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.

  • Understand the importance of confidential information concerning students and others while maintaining a high degree of integrity and support for Kingsway College.

Personal:

  • Dedicated and active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • Passionate about Adventist education and supports the mission of Kingsway College.

  • Professional, responsible, and a positive work attitude.

  • Available for weekend and evening hours when required.

  • Ability to pass a criminal record/vulnerable sector check.

  • Hold current first aid and CPR certification.

  • Have a clean driver’s abstract.
