Job Description

JOB TITLE: assistant dean of men
REPORTS TO: men’s residence hall dean/ President
DEPARTMENT: Residence Halls

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2024

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Men’s Dean is responsible for certain aspects of dormitory operation. The employee will become acquainted with and help enforce the policies of Kingsway College. The employee shall agree to observe the employment and administrative policies of the SDA Church in Canada K-12 Board of Education, those policies of the SDA Church K-12 Board of Education which pertain to the operation of Kingsway College, the policies adopted by the Board of Directors of this school, and those laws and regulations of the Province of Ontario which are applicable to this school.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides a role model of successful Christian living for the students.

  • Interacts with students and models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Christ and then spiritual growth.

  • To assist the Residence Hall Dean to develop a spirit of well-being and an atmosphere conducive to the spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual development of each resident.

  • To help oversee the dormitory operations with a focus on safety, accountability, and cleanliness.

  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.

  • Provides adequate supervision of students for which he is responsible.

  • Fulfills the following duties and responsibilities of the Residence Hall Dean

    in his absence:

    • Responsible for residence hall worships.

    • Provides conditions conducive to study.

    • Acts upon minor disciplinary problems in the dorm and refers major disciplinary matters to the Discipline Committee.

    • Corresponds with parents as necessary.

    • Approves requests for weekend leaves.

    • Supervises the habits of resident students in respect to working, studying, and sleeping; and to work with the nurse in matters relating to the health needs of the students.

    • Promotes fire and safety procedures.

    • Responsible for regular room check and for the overall cleanliness of the residence hall.

  • Transport students as delegated by the Administration.

  • Participates in faculty/staff meetings. Also participates in major school events (i.e. fund dinner, preview weekend, alumni weekend, graduation).

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

JOB STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in theology or psychology. A background in business management, physical education or wellness would be an asset.

Experience:

  • Should have experience working with and building relationships with youth in a leadership position.

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • A desire to mentor young people and a willingness to serve others.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.

  • Understand the importance of confidential information concerning students and others while maintaining a high degree of integrity and support for Kingsway College.

Personal:

  • Dedicated and active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • Passionate about Adventist education and supports the mission of Kingsway College.

  • Professional, responsible, and a positive work attitude.

  • Available for weekend and evening hours when required.

  • Ability to pass a vulnerable sector criminal Police Check.

  • MUST have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number
