Job Description
JOB TITLE: Student Work Supervisor
REPORTS TO: V.P. Finance
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Work Supervisor oversees the recruitment, placement, and supervision of student labour across campus. This role directly supervises students assigned to janitorial and related duties. The position is full-time and salaried, reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance.
The incumbent is expected to uphold and adhere to the employment and administrative policies of Kingsway College, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada Department of Education, and all applicable provincial laws and regulations of Ontario.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a positive role model of Christian values and lifestyle for students.
Assess campus labour needs in collaboration with staff and departments.
Assign students to roles in consultation with campus employers, taking into account students’ interests, abilities, and skills.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student work records, including:
Monthly timecards
Performance evaluations
Attendance records (tardiness and absences)
Disciplinary actions and accommodations
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student work performance and behaviour.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Finance on student wage scales and labour budget planning.
Support students in developing positive workplace attitudes, habits, and skills.
Approve and manage student job transfers.
Ensure compliance with required student work program hours.
Attend staff meetings as required.
Perform cleaning duties when student workers are unavailable.
Fulfill additional responsibilities, including:
Evening and weekend supervision duties
Sponsorship of classes, clubs, or student organizations
Participation on institutional committees
JOB STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Minimum: High school diploma
Experience:
Preferred: At least two (2) years of supervisory experience, preferably in janitorial or facilities services
Skills:
Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and policy documents
Ability to write clear reports and professional correspondence
Effective communication skills with students, parents, staff, and the public
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Understanding of ratios, percentages, and data interpretation (e.g., bar graphs)
Proficiency in standard office software, including:
Word processing
Spreadsheets
Databases
Desktop publishing tools
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to apply logical reasoning to both practical and conceptual challenges
Certifications & Requirements:
Must maintain required certification from the Board of Regents of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the Ontario Ministry of Education
Copies of certifications must be submitted to and maintained by school administration
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for tasks
Frequent reaching, handling, and communication (talking/hearing)
Occasional climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
Ability to:
Lift/move up to 20 lbs regularly
Lift/move up to 40 lbs frequently
Lift/move up to 80 lbs occasionally
Vision requirements include close and distance vision, colour vision, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Mental and Emotional Demands:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Capability to perform effectively under pressure
Strong teamwork and independent work skills
Willingness to follow direction and demonstrate initiative
Excellent interpersonal skills with a professional and positive demeanor
Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities
Work Environment:
Moderate noise levels typical of school and maintenance environments
Regular exposure to cleaning products, equipment, and related materials
